Each World Cup leaves us with hundreds of statistics and records. The history of the World Cup is full of teams and players who be in history forever.


Country with Most Tournament appearances:
Brazil with 18 tournaments played.

Champions Record: Brazil won 5 times.

Highest Scoring in a Game: Austria vs. Switzerland 7 - 5 (Switzerland 1954 - Quarter Final)

All Time Top Scorer: Ronaldo (Brazil) with 15 Goals.

Best Scorer in 1 game:
Oleg Salenko (Russia) with 5 Goals.

Most Appearances: Lothar Matthaeus (Germany) with 25 appearances.

Highest Attendance in a Match: 199.854 (Uruguay vs. Brazil - Brazil 1950 - Final Round)


Other World Cup Statistics:


- Two players share the record for playing in the most World Cups: Antonio Carbajal (Mexico) and Lothar Matthäus (Germany) played in five tournaments.

- Pelé (Brazil) is the only player to have won three World Cup winners' medals.

- Just Fontaine (France) holds the record for the most goals scored in a single World Cup. All his 13 goals were scored in the Sweden 1958 tournament.

- Mário Zagallo (Brazil) and Franz Beckenbauer (West Germany) are the only people to date to win the World Cup as both player and head coach. Zagallo won in 1958 and 1962 as a player, and in 1970 as head coach. Beckenbauer won in 1974 as captain and in 1990 as head coach.

- Vittorio Pozzo (Italy) is the only head coach to ever win two World Cups.

- Brazil scoring the most goals, 201.
